Vital Records

BIRTH RECORDS

Birth Records are available for years 1880 to 1920 and 1942 to current.  The records for the years 1921 - 1941 are kept at the Iowa Health and Human Services, in the vital records section.

Certified copies are available to entitled persons for $15.00 each.*  Entitled persons must complete an application and provide photo ID. 

*Entitled persons include the person named on the record or that person's spouse, children, legal parents, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings or legal representative or guardian.  Applicants must be 18 or older.

DEATH RECORDS

Death Records are available except for years 1921 - 1941.  The records for years 1921 - 1941 are kept at the Iowa Health and Human Services.

Marriage Records are available except for years 1921 - 1941.  The records for years 1921 - 1941 are kept at the Iowa Health and Human Services.

GENEALOGY REQUESTS

MARRIAGE LICENSES

Both parties must be present to apply for a marriage license.  Each of you must sign in front of a commissioned notary public.  A witness of legal age who is acquainted with both of you must also be present.  Relatives may serve as the witness if they meet the criteria.  All persons must provide U.S. Government issued photo ID (current only) i.e. Iowa Driver's License or Non-Driver's photo ID.  The license must be obtained at least three business days prior to the wedding.  The fee is due upon application in order to process the application.  The current fee is $35.00.  This cost also includes a certified copy of your marriage certificate after the ceremony has been performed and the certificate is filed in our office by the officiant.  Marriage licenses issued in Iowa are valid only for marriage ceremonies performed within the boundaries of the State of Iowa by authorized officiants as defined in the Code of Iowa, ch. 595.10.  Printable information available below.
