What is the significance of the road names?
The road names that Humboldt County
uses were created with a logical sequential order. Avenues are laid out
in semi-alphabetical order, using mostly the names of the the 50 states.
Other names were also used to accommodate instances when there was not a state
name that began with the next sequential letter such as Y. For example Arizona Avenue which
runs north to south in the western-most side of Humboldt
County is considered the first street name;
and York Avenue
is the last north south road on the eastern-most side of Humboldt County. There is no road name utilizing letter Z. Streets in Humboldt county run
East to west, and are laid out in numerical order; 100th St is the northern-most road in Humboldt County,
and 280th St
is the southern-most road in Humboldt
County. This
lay-out creates a map grid which further details the individual "house number"of each structure in Humboldt
County.
